Hi, I’m the maker behind Herbal Momma. I’ve spent 17 years in healthcare—14 as an RN and 3 as a Nurse Practitioner. In all that training, herbal and natural medicine barely got a mention. During NP school, I found two pages in a thick pharmacology book about herbs. Those two pages changed everything.
As I dug in, I learned how plants have real, measurable properties—often mimicked by petroleum-based drugs, but naturally occurring and typically with fewer side effects. I started researching on my own, nights and weekends, and fell in love with what nature can do.
At the same time, I was struggling with my own sensitivities—itchy, allergic-type skin reactions to common products like lotions, sunscreens, and deodorants. Clean ingredient lists were hard to find, so I started making my own: deodorant, body butter, mosquito repellent, lip balm, and herbal salves. I also grew a big passion for castor oil and its many benefits—so yes, I put it in my body butter and use it literally head-to-toe.
Friends and family kept saying, “You should sell this.” For years, I laughed it off—single mom life meant getting home at 6pm, cramming dinner, dishes, homework, and bedtime into two hours. But earlier this year I paid off some big bills, moved to part-time, and finally had the margin to be present with my kids. Herbal Momma was born in August—right at my kitchen counter, with my kids learning alongside me.
